Stanley Security Solutions Introduces Antimicrobial Protected Door Hardware

06/14/2010

Stanley Security Solutions Inc. announces the commercial release of UltraShield antimicrobial protected door hardware. The Stanley Security Solutions UltraShield finish inhibits the growth of bacteria and other microbes on the surface of the hardware.

Partnering with Agion Technologies, a leader in antimicrobial technology, Stanley’s new UltraShield utilizes the Agion antimicrobial agent carried through a cradle to cradle third-party certification as an environmentally friendly product.

The UltraShield protected coating incorporates a naturally occurring silver-ion exchange creating a sanitary surface. In doing so, the microbe food and oxygen supplies are eliminated, effectively producing long-lasting product protection. The silver-ion exchange occurs only on demand when destructive microbes are present.

“Independent studies have confirmed that maintaining a secure environment against the unseen world of bacteria and other microbes is of prominent concern,” explains Mike McCoy, Product Manager for Stanley Security Solutions.

Zeolite crystals containing silver ions are randomly oriented and distributed through the surface of the UltraShield coating. In conditions that support bacterial growth the positive ions, in ambient moisture, exchange with silver ions at reversible bonding sites on the zeolite. The exchanged silver ions are then available to control microbial growth.

The UltraShield silver ions attack multiple targets in the microbe to prevent it from growing to a destructive population. This action fights cell growth in three ways:

• Prevents respiration by inhibiting transport functions in the cell wall

• Inhibits cell division (reproduction)

• Disrupts cell metabolism

Available in two finishes, 630AM Satin Stainless Steel and 626AM Satin Chrome, the UltraShield protection is available to Stanley Security Solutions Precision Hardware Apex 2000 exit device and BEST Lock 8K, 9K, 40H, 7T and 8T series of products. UltraShield is recommended for applications in healthcare, hospitality, food service, education, transportation and any other location where microbe population is a concern.
